About The Wine

Stated simply, 2021 is a triumph for Montalcino... There is something magical about the 2021 Brunellos...Their concentration and depth create a saturating tension that’s beautifully balanced by lively acidity, the saving grace for this warm vintage... The 2021 vintage also yielded wines of extremely high quality in the entry-level Brunello category, meaning that there will be plenty of excellent, affordable wines to choose from. ~Vinous Media

"Basking in golden sunshine, Camigliano is a beautiful estate with an ambitious winemaking program that includes a large winery and 92 hectares of vines over varying soils and microclimates. The Ghezzi family is currently preparing the ground for a new vineyard with special exposures to be planted with selected clones of Sangiovese for future production of Brunello di Montalcino." ~Wine Advocate

Camigliano produces award-winning, organic Sangiovese. But, its history is a compelling story that mirrors the feuding states of medieval Toscana and was the site of a famous battle between the Sienese and Pisans. From the Etruscan era to WWII, the land underneath these vines is truly historic and has been meticulously maintained for growth.

The symbol of Camigliano: the camel, found on a seal dating to the 13th century, can be connected to the influence of the papacy in the area, and there is speculation of connection to the movements of the Crusades that reached the Holy Land due to the castle's location on the pilgrimage routes to Rome. The property is actually a tiny hamlet 15 minutes southwest of Montalcino. The scenery is stunning and the nearest neighbor is Argiano winery (winner of #1 wine in the world by Wine Spectator in 2023).

The modern history dates from 1957 when Walter Ghezzi, a successful Milanese businessman, purchased and renovated the property. Walter's son continues the legacy of maintaining its medieval past whilst advancing the practices of this historic estate.

100% Sangiovese. This wine is a true expression of its terroir, offering intense aromas and beautifully balanced tannins. Carefully crafted from the finest clones and sourced from the sunniest, most ideal vineyards, it's a classy bottle that will only get better with time. Organically farmed. Perfect with game, beef, or aged cheeses, but honestly, it’s equally stunning on its own as a contemplative, sip-and-savor wine. It’s the kind of wine that leaves an impression long after the last drop.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino has a reflective, bright red/orange hue and benefits from some air at this early stage, revealing notes of cranberries, cherries, tangerine, fresh wildflowers, and brushy herbs. Medium-bodied, it has elegance and energy, with refined tannins, bright acidity, and a gently tapering finish. ~93 Jeb Dunnuck

This has a savory character of cured meat, iron and wet stones, with spices and red berries in the background. The medium- to full-bodied palate is sleek and smoothly integrated, with well-defined yet supple tannins and a fleshy core of red fruit. Bright and juicy. From organically grown grapes. ~93 James Suckling

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a bouquet of crushed strawberries and cherries, complicated by cedary spices and nuances of blood orange. It shows the weight and pliancy of its southern roots, with depths of mineral-inflected red berry fruits and mulling spices. The wine tapers off with medium length, gentle structure and a subtle cranberry tinge that pinches at the cheeks. ~93 Vinous
