    About The Wine

Fabio Oberto has spent his career in the hills of Piedmont, building deep relationships with small Langhe growers and zeroing in on one thing: Nebbiolo that speaks clearly of where it comes from. Instead of owning vast estates, he works like a modern-day scout—sourcing fruit and wines from trusted families, then shaping them with meticulous technical oversight to ensure purity, balance, and authenticity.

La Collina di Dioniso, founded in 2016, follows this négoce-style model with intention. Grapes and base wines are hand-selected from top sites, vinified and aged under one disciplined vision, and blended only when it sharpens the final expression. The result is flexibility when vintages shift, and remarkable consistency when it matters.

The 2021 La Collina di Dioniso Barolo reflects this disciplined approach: a classical Barolo expression shaped by precise sourcing and measured winemaking, prioritizing aromatic clarity, structural definition, and respect for the Barolo DOCG.

The 2021 vintage speaks in a youthful voice, where tension, aromatic lift, and finely woven structure take precedence over immediacy.

A Barolo built on balance and intention, offering an early window into its origins while retaining the structure for graceful evolution.

    100% Nebbiolo.

Garnet red with evolving brick-orange edges, this Barolo opens with an intense, ethereal mix of lifted aromas. The palate is warm, full, and dry, driven by firm, persistent tannins that add depth and complexity with every sip.

    CRITIC REVIEWS

    What the Critics Said

Brilliant ruby with a pronounced garnet hue. Very clear and extremely exciting nose, initially notes of cold smoke and shattered rock, hints of white pepper, then beautiful strawberry and plum. Lots of sweet texture on the palate, with multi-layered fine-meshed tannins, still a little rough on the back, very young. ~ 94 Falstaff

Rich, red-fruited character with dried cherries, dried orange peel and hints of potpourri and crushed stones. Medium- to full-bodied with a velvety texture, it has a ripe and succulent core of fruit and a lingering, supple aftertaste. Better from 2028. ~ 92 James Suckling

Pretty nose of tea and cranberry, then to a palate of gentle spice, red fruit and tight tannins. ~ 91 Decanter World Wine Awards (Silver Medal)

    THE PRODUCER

    Fabio Oberto

Fabio Oberto launched his own project in 2016, representing a new generation of Piedmont winemakers who work beyond a single estate. He collaborates closely with small growers across the Langhe, sourcing Nebbiolo that reflects true regional character.

Instead of relying on inherited vineyards, he leans on precision—selecting the right fruit, guiding vinification with technical rigor, and shaping wines that honor Barolo and its hillsides. His négoce-style approach is modern in structure but traditional in spirit: authentic wines built on trust, clarity, and a deep respect for place.
