About The Wine

Michele Chiarlo began his journey as a wine producer in 1956, building one of Piedmont's most respected houses over seven decades. In the 1990s, his sons Stefano and Alberto joined the estate, carrying forward a family obsession with quality that began when Michele's father Pietro farmed the hills of Bubbio in 1898.

Cerequio is one of the most prestigious crus in Barolo—some call it a top-three vineyard in the appellation. Shaped like an amphitheater and protected from harsh winds, it's nicknamed the "Riviera of the Langhe" for its mild microclimate. Michele Chiarlo farms 22 acres here, and the Riserva is produced only in the best years, from the best fruit. After harvest, this wine disappears for seven years—four of them resting in bottle—before release. Small production, long maturation, beautiful complexity.

Nebbiolo from this site develops the grape's most sublime qualities: violet, rose petal, truffle, tar, blackberry, wild cherry. The 2021 shows bright garnet with orange edges, balsamic lift, black fruits, fine spices, and that signature truffle note. Full-bodied, rich on entry, then elegant—silky tannins, long finish, the kind of structure that rewards patience.

This is the wine that makes grocery-store Barolo taste like a placeholder.
