The blue fruit combines with violets, lavender, sandalwood, iodine and mussel shells. Medium-bodied with very poised fruit and tannins that are integrated nicely in a refined and sophisticated way. This is the third vintage of Wings, an 85% carmenere with 15% cabernet franc that comes from the Montes' vineyards on the slopes of the Apalta area, in the Colchagua Valley. This year, was cooler, and the herbal side is more pronounced, although always within the codes of the house, which accentuate ripeness and succulence. It is deep in flavors, intense in ripeness, and rich in black fruits, with firm tannins that need time in the bottle. Wings comes from a selection of three hillsides that total about five hectares. At about 350 meters above sea level, these grapes—due to their very late ripening and rather light style—almost never ranked for the house's most ambitious wines, especially for Purple Angel, Montes' top carmenere. But, taking advantage of this stylistic difference, in 2019 they decided to vinify that part separately. ~ 95 Descorchados

Carménère grapes used in this blend grow over granite soils in the Apalta Valley. The resulting wine shows energy and tension on the palate. A bouquet of oak spices introduces pronounced red and black fruit, green bell pepper and toasted oak flavors. It has lively acidity and a long savory finish. ~ 91 Wine Enthusiast
