Four generations deep, Piancornello has been farming the same Montalcino hillside since 1950. Great-grandfather Zefiro planted the first Brunello vines around a rural house dating to the 1700s; today Claudio Batazzi, his wife Silvia, and their daughters carry the work forward.

One of the original certified organic estates in Montalcino, the family bottles sangiovese that feels rooted in place and time — no shortcuts, no compromises.

The 2021 vintage is a generational shift for Brunello. After the power and heat of 2018 and 2020, this growing season was remarkably even — no extreme spikes, no severe drought, just balanced ripening that recalls the grace of 1997, 1999, and 2001.

The result: structured yet weightless wines, with finer tannins, fresh aromatics, and a transparency that makes them compelling now while still offering serious aging potential.

James Suckling, rating the vintage among the finest Brunellos of the past decade, called the 2021s "highly perfumed and complex, with archetypal sangiovese character — cherries, blood orange and flowers — combined with deep fruit, a linear backbone and finely tuned tannins."

Piancornello vinifies in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts and sees 25 to 28 days of skin maceration — old-school method, nothing rushed. The wine shows smoky wood, raspberries, red cherries, and balsamic vibrancy on the nose.

Medium-bodied, fragrant, and juicy, with crunchy tannins, crisp acidity, and a vivid, chalky finish. Round, full, and structured beneath the elegance — leather, red and black cherries, strong tannins that will reward patience.
