About The Wine

Maison Louis Jadot, founded in 1859 and revered across Burgundy for 165 years, ventured outside France exactly once — and planted roots in Oregon's Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In 2013, Jadot acquired the Resonance Vineyard, first planted in 1981 and among the oldest Pinot Noir sites in the appellation. Jacques Lardiere, who shaped Jadot's Burgundian legacy for 42 years, led the project; winemaker Guillaume Large has carried it forward since 2017, farming the vines on their own roots and dry-farming in the Burgundian tradition.

This 2021 bottle is a single-vineyard expression from those original 1981 own-rooted plantings — the kind of vine material that survived phylloxera in Burgundy and produces Pinot Noir with unusual depth and tension. Yamhill-Carlton is known for bold, structured wines, and Large has harnessed that power without losing elegance: the wine was destemmed, fermented with ambient yeasts in stainless steel, and aged 15 months in French oak (30% new).

The 2021 vintage delivered vibrant, focused reds after a challenging 2020, and this bottle shows it. Deeply concentrated and silky, the wine opens with blackberry, cassis, raspberry, and crushed stone, layered with lilac, rose petal, and Earl Grey spice. The textures recall wildflower honey and blackberry oatmeal bars — dense but detailed, jammed with tension and held taut by refined tannins and bright acidity. Decanter called it "elegantly structured with a very long, nuanced finish" and scored it 94 points; James Suckling awarded the same.

Pull the cork now or cellar it through 2031. This is Oregon Pinot Noir built the Burgundian way — old vines, own roots, and 165 years of winemaking knowledge behind every decision.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The 2021 Résonance Vineyard Pinot Noir has broody aromas of pomegranate, black cherry, iodine, forest floor and amaro. Despite its concentrated, floral flavors, it has an elegant structure of silky tannins and vibrant acidity and a very long, nuanced finish. ~ 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Charming aromatics of violets and spice. 300-500ft elevation and marine sedimentary soils. 40-year-old vines are own-rooted and planted in 1981. The Résonance vineyard was acquired in 2013, 20 acres, with tangy blackberries and cranberries that meld with blood oranges and spice. Smoky mint notes lift clove and Chinese five spice. 70% Pommard, 15% Dijon and 15% wadenswil. The original blocks are the heart of this wine. The density of fruit comes from marine soils, 100% destemmed with extended maceration, native yeasts and no pump overs. 3-4 week maceration. Lees are removed after malo, and the wines are aged 18 months in oak. Fruit complements the tension and mineral core of the wine. The three clonal selections help craft the wine, Wadenswil brings structure, Dijon the elegance and black fruit. ~94 Decanter

The kind of acidity that raises goose bumps on arms fuels a lively wine packing oodles of tart red cherries and boysenberries, along with flavors of espresso and sea salt. The aromas are equally captivating, as black cherries, glove leather and violets fill the air with each glass swirl. Try it with a bacon sandwich. ~ 93 Wine Enthusiast

Tight with tension, this Pinot is slow to reveal itself. Opens to blueberry and guava flavors laced with forest floor, stony minerality and dusky spice tones as this builds structure toward broad-shouldered tannins. Needs time. Best from 2025 through 2032.~ 93 Wine Spectator
