About The Wine

In the heart of Bordeaux’s legendary Left Bank, where the historic soils of Pauillac have spent centuries giving life to some of the world’s most prestigious red wines, sits Château Mouton Rothschild. Known globally as a Premier Cru Classé (First Growth) powerhouse, Mouton Rothschild is a sanctuary where wine, art, and family history intersect.

Yet, tucked within this kingdom of robust Cabernet Sauvignon lies a rare, shimmering secret: Aile d’Argent.

The name Aile d’Argent (which translates to "Silver Wing") is drawn not from the vineyard's topography, but from the deep bonds of family lore.

In the 1930s, the visionary Baron Philippe de Rothschild conjured a magical fairy tale to enchant his young daughter, Philippine. The hero of the story was a magical, silver-winged teapot that went on grand, fantastical adventures. Decades later, during World War II, the Baron was imprisoned. To keep his spirit connected to his daughter, he put the beloved childhood tale to paper. It was published by Gallimard in 1947 under the title Aile d’Argent la Magique.

When Baroness Philippine de Rothschild grew up and took the reins of the estate, she made it her mission to revive a forgotten Médoc tradition: crafting fine, dry white wines on the Left Bank. In the early 1980s, she planted a select few hectares of white varietals amidst the sea of red. When the first precious bottles were ready, she gave the wine the moniker of her father's magical creation.

The 2022 vintage stands as a testament to the resilient, centuries-old gravel terroirs of Mouton Rothschild. In a growing season defined by extreme summer heat and golden sunshine, the deep-rooted vines adapted beautifully, soaking up the heat during the day and radiating it back into the cool night air.

Steeped in history but crafted with modern, exacting precision, the 2022 Aile d’Argent is an exclusive glimpse into a different side of a legendary First Growth estate. It bridges the gap between the historic nobility of the Rothschild family, a touching father-daughter story, and the unparalleled brilliance of Pauillac terroir.

Produced in strictly limited quantities, Aile d’Argent offers a rare opportunity to experience the artistry and legacy of Château Mouton Rothschild through a brilliantly white lens. It is more than a bottle of wine; it is a piece of liquid history.

THE PRODUCER

Chateau Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates and a symbol of ambition realized. Acquired by the Rothschild family in 1853, the château famously overturned its Second Growth ranking in 1973 to become the only property ever promoted to First Growth within the 1855 Classification.

Renowned for both uncompromising winemaking and its artist-designed labels, Mouton Rothschild represents the union of Pauillac power, cultural influence, and enduring prestige.
