About The Wine

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, Bouchard Pere & Fils stands among Burgundy's oldest and most prestigious houses — a producer whose nearly three centuries of continuity are matched only by the quality of its vineyard holdings. The estate owns over 130 hectares across the region, including 12 hectares of Grand Cru and 74 hectares of Premier Cru, and has held a monopoly on the legendary Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus vineyard since 1791. That kind of staying power doesn't happen by accident.

Meursault is the village that defines white Burgundy for a reason: limestone soils that pull minerality up from the bedrock, mid-slope exposure that balances ripeness and acidity, and a Chardonnay style that marries richness with restraint. Les Clous sits at the heart of that tradition — organically farmed vines at 300 meters altitude on stony, limestone soil, picked a week later than warmer sites to preserve freshness.

The 2022 vintage delivers citrus, apricot, acacia flowers, and saline minerality on the nose, then opens to a fresh palate edged with orange pith, mandarin, and light stem ginger. The texture turns waxy toward the finish — medium-to-full-bodied, satiny, with an expressive core of fruit and a saline close that keeps pulling you back to the glass. James Suckling scored it 94 points.

This is Burgundy from a house that's been perfecting its craft since before the American Revolution — organically farmed, expertly vinified, and built to reward both early drinking and patient cellaring. The 2022 is hitting its stride now and will hold through the decade.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The lemony nose shines like the morning star. Very cool and elegant with no trace of the opulence that's widely considered to be typical for this appellation. Becomes more and more fascinating the further it flows over your palate. Wonderful, crystalline minerality and lime freshness at the very long finish. From 8.6 hectares of vines at 300 meters altitude on a stony, limestone soil, where the grapes have to be picked a week later than those in the warmer sites of this appellation. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. ~94 James Suckling
