About the Wine

The history of Chateau Mangot reaches all the way back to 1556. Most recently cared for by the third generation of the Todeschini family, the Chateau now has 34 hectares of organically-farmed vines in St. Emilion and produces expressive wines with minimal intervention in the vineyard and in the cellar—wines worthy of the storied winery’s legacy.

Minimal intervention isn’t just a buzzword to the Todeschini family. It’s been well over a decade since any non-organic chemicals have been used in the vineyards. Native yeasts ferment the grapes and a limited amount of sulfites are used. This has been their way long before this style of winemaking became the trend. Their efforts pay off in pure, precise, expressive wines of consistent quality that are a joy to drink.

A rising star in Saint-Émilion, 2022 Château Mangot delivers a wine that is as dynamic and expressive as the estate itself. Now recognized as Grand Cru, this vintage represents the culmination of the estate’s biodynamic approach, meticulous vineyard management, and a commitment to precision winemaking.

2022 was an extraordinary vintage for Bordeaux, it was blessed with a 97 pt review by Wine Spectator who said: "A beautiful vintage. Merlot berries were small and concentrated; Cabernet Franc also relished the conditions. Wines are very aromatic and sleek, with Pomerol and St.-Emilion excelling"

Aging: French oak barrels, enhancing structure and complexity while preserving the wine’s freshness and mineral character.

Tasting Notes

A blend of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Château Mangot is a juicy, refined, and mineral-driven Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. Aromas of ripe cherries, dark berries, licorice, and rose petals unfold with hints of nougat, fresh orange zest, and crushed stone. The palate is vibrant and layered, with silky yet firm tannins, delivering flavors of plums, red cherries, and savory spices. A long, mineral-laced finish with a touch of sea salt adds depth and elegance, making this one of the estate’s finest vintages to date.

Critical Reviews

Quite a fresh, mineral and lively St.-Emilion that hooks me with garden herbs, brambleberries and an engaging twist of white pepper. Lots of wet stones and flowers as well. Very structured and compact, this has vibrating, chalky tannins and a broad, lengthy finish. Tight and dense, but freshness and balance are in check. Drink from 2027. ~95 James Suckling

Aromas of sweet cherries, petals and licorice introduce the 2022 Château Mangot, a medium to full-bodied, dense and layered wine that's suave and multidimensional, its concentrated core of lively fruit built around sweet, powdery tannins. It's the finest Mangot I've tasted to date, and a decade from now, readers will have a lot of fun including this in blind tastings against more famous names.~95 Wine Advocate

The 2022 Mangot is a bold, sensual wine. Blackberry jam, licorice, new leather, chocolate, spice and espresso are all beautifully amplified. This potent, explosive Saint-Émilion has a ton to offer. ~93 Vinous Media

The 2022 Château Mangot is based on 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. It's a medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant Saint-Emilion offering lovely red and blue fruits, some subtle sappy herbs, celery seed, floral nuances, fine tannins, and beautiful overall balance. I always find a green, herbaceous edge in these wines, yet this certainly brings beautiful fruit and has plenty to love. I suspect it will evolve for two decades with ease. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck

Elegant, soft, fresh, and deep, the wine quickly focuses you on its layers of ripe, sweet, fresh, dark, red pit fruits. The long, powerful, mineral-edged finish, with its layers of plums, cherries and salt, sticks with you. Drink from 2025-2042.~ 92-94 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
