Paul Hobbs founded Crossbarn in 2000 to honor his family's 150-year farming heritage — the name itself points to a childhood meeting place on the family's fruit farm in upstate New York. What started as one small lot of Cabernet has quietly grown into a lineup that includes this Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, sourced from seven AVAs within the appellation and anchored by fruit from Feeney Ranch, which Hobbs purchased in 2014.

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir lives in the tension between ocean fog and fine sandy-loam Goldridge soils — the kind of dirt that produces red fruit with lift and structure, not jam. This wine pulls from carefully selected vineyard sites across the Coast, hand-harvested at night and fermented separately by vineyard with native yeasts. Hobbs keeps oak in check — minimal new wood, stainless steel doing most of the work — so the fruit and the acidity stay front and center.

The wine opens with pomegranate, cranberry, and red apple skin, layered with plum, raspberry, and Morello cherry on the palate. Fine-grained tannins and bright acidity add tension through a long, refreshing finish. It's light-bodied but concentrated, earthy but clean — the kind of Pinot that drinks well above its price.
