About the Wine

This estate isn’t some newcomer trying to make a splash—this is four generations of grit, tradition, and obsession bottled. The story began in 1920 when Félix Vidal married into land in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and from that moment, the family never let go. Each generation built on the last, passing down not just vineyards but a philosophy: respect the land, know your vines like family, and make wines that make people talk.

Today, Frédéric Boutin and his wife Nathalie are the keepers of that flame, farming 27 acres spread over some of the appellation’s most revered crus—La Crau, Le Boucou, Coste Froid, Roumiguière—and crafting wines from all 13 authorized grape varieties.

The Tradition Blanc comes from two elite parcels: “Le Grand Pierre,” where Roussanne digs deep into sandy brown soils over ancient Miocene red sandstone, and “Les Marines,” where the vine roots push through red clay and stony alluvium. Average vine age? A seasoned 50 years—because here, experience matters. Every cluster is hand-harvested, handled with precision, and vinified with the kind of know-how that comes from generations of trial, triumph, and relentless pursuit of perfection.

In the glass, the 2022 bursts with ripe stone fruit, fragrant white blossoms, and a touch of honey, all wrapped in a sleek, fresh frame that keeps you coming back. It’s rich yet agile, powerful yet refined—a white with the pedigree and charisma to stand toe-to-toe with the most celebrated reds.

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is absolutely next level. While everyone's obsessing over the reds, Domaine La Boutiniere is quietly crafting some of the most electric white wines in the appellation. Rich, complex, with that signature CDP white power that'll make you forget everything you thought you knew about white Rhône wines.

2022 was an outstanding year for CDP. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate blessed this vintage with a 96 point review, and Vinous Media said "A ripe, powerful vintage with some gorgeous wines."

Tasting Notes

A delicate pale-yellow color with green and gold reflections. Generous, spring-like nose of white flowers: acacia flowers, peach blossom, lime blossom, and fennel…then revealing a hint of honey. The palate is soft, silky, and velvety with stone fruit, nectarine, and vine peach with subtle citrus notes that bring freshness and noble bitterness to the finish. An astonishing acidity which balances the wine making it both suave and fresh.

Critical Reviews

Equal parts Clairette, Grenache and Roussanne, La Boutiniere's 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is mostly aged in stainless steel, with 20% going into demi-muids for five months. Scents of grilled peach and pineapple mark the nose, while the wine is rich and lush in the mouth, full-bodied and expansive, with a ripe, velvety finish. Enjoy it on the young side. ~92 Robert Parker's Wine Adovcate
