About The Wine

In 1989, Ken and Grace Evenstad bought a fog-bound, just-logged hilltop in the Dundee Hills sight unseen. Then they built a five-level gravity-flow winery, planted only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and bet everything on the idea that Oregon could speak in the same language as Burgundy.

The receipts tell the story. A 97-point Wine Spectator score for the 2008 Grace Vineyard — at the time, the highest ever awarded to an Oregon Pinot. A #3 Wine in the World finish for the 2010 Evenstad Reserve. A #2 Wine in the World for the 2014 Chardonnay, making Domaine Serene the only winery on earth with a Wine Spectator Top 3 placement for both varieties. A 2012 Winery Hill that beat 26 Premier Cru and 6 Grand Cru Burgundies for Best in Show at the 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards. Nearly 200 90+ scores from Wine Spectator. LIVE sustainable certified. Served at White House state dinners.

The Yamhill Cuvée is the gateway. Named for the county where every Domaine Serene vineyard sits, it's a deliberate house-style blend across three of Oregon's most prized Pinot AVAs — Yamhill-Carlton (red marine soils, perfume), Dundee Hills (volcanic Jory soils, structure), and Eola-Amity Hills (windswept ridges, acidity).

The result is complete: rose petals, cherry, cedar spice, silky fine-grained tannins. Vintage after vintage.

2022 punched above its tier. Decanter awarded it 97 points and called it "a masterstroke of Pinot Noir making" — landing it in Domaine Serene's Trophy Case Collection alongside the cult single-vineyard cuvées. Suckling: 93. Vinous: 92. Wine Spectator: 91.

Translation: this is the Domaine Serene bottle to buy when you want serious Oregon Pinot without the three-figure price tag. Drinking beautifully now, easily five to seven more in the cellar.

100% Pinot Noir.

Fragrant rose petals, cranberry, fresh-crushed strawberry, dark cherry, and cedary spice on the nose, framed by a gentle hint of oak.

The palate is rounded and supple — woodsy plum and cedar layered over silky red fruit, with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity carrying through to a long, perfumed finish.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A masterstroke of Pinot Noir making! Deftly placed crunchy red cherry and raspberry fruit with a generosity of sweet oaky spice which unfurls and weaves around the supple tannins and texture, with bristling acidity and a lengthy finish.
~97 Decanter World Wine Awards

Vivid, fresh red fruit aromas and charming, bright strawberry flavors distinguish this medium-bodied wine that’s on the lighter end of the scale for Domaine Serene. Floral, cedar and cinnamon aromas lead to nicely ripe berries and cherries on the palate backed by medium tannins. Drink now or hold. ~ 93 James Suckling

The 2022 Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvée is spicy in the glass, with a collage of rosy florals and cedary spice that gives way to dried strawberries. Soft textures sweep across the palate, carrying ripe red and black fruits elevated by a tactile tinge of minerals and the slightest hint of citrus. The finish is long and staining, leaving fine-grained tannins and a violet floral resonance. ~ 92 Vinous Media

Refined and handsomely structured, with appealing raspberry and guava flavors laced with black tea, clove and spices. Finishes with fine-grained tannins. ~ 91 Wine Spectator
