About The Wine

Fasoli Gino has been working Veneto since 1925 — and went fully organic in 1979, when the second-generation Gino Fasoli developed a chemical allergy and decided the vineyards had to change. By 1984, the estate had committed to organic principles across the board.

Today, they're the only biodynamic producer in the region, a century-old family operation that's spent the last forty years proving you don't need shortcuts to make honest wine.

La Corte del Pozzo comes from vineyards on the morainic hills around Lake Garda, in the Bardolino district — famous for breezy, light-bodied reds that drink best cold. The geese on the label aren't decoration: they're part of the vineyard crew, foraging on grass and insects to keep the vines healthy without sprays. The grapes — Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and a splash of Garganega — are hand-harvested, fermented in stainless, and bottled with 12.8% alcohol and just under 3 grams of residual sugar. It's biodynamic farming married to a style that doesn't ask you to think hard.

In the glass: soft red fruit — strawberry, cherry — with peach and rose petal riding the edges. Medium-light body, round texture, silky without losing the line of acidity that keeps it refreshing. Wonderfully dry on the finish, chill it to 58°F and it's the kind of Valpolicella that makes you wonder why anyone pays double for less honest wine.

Valpolicella doesn't need to be complicated to be good. This is proof.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Another delicious wine from this impressive producer. A Valpolicella that manage to eke out freshness from a vintage as warm as 2022. Smoky notes of camphor, sandalwood and wood smoke. Pickled orange zest and tamarind, too. The fruit is of a darker hue and yet the tannins, while a little thick, are relatively refined. Good drinking. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. ~ 90 James Suckling

THE PRODUCER

Fasoli Gino

Founded in 1925 in the heart of Soave, Veneto. Agricultural journey began in 1921 when Amadio Fasoli chose to focus on viticulture in the Illasi Valley, east of Verona. First sales invoice issued in 1925 to the parish priest. Second generation led by Gino Fasoli expanded vineyard area and wine production throughout Verona. Third generation transitioned to organic farming in 1979 due to Gino's allergy to chemicals. Since 1984, Fasoli Gino has upheld organic winemaking and viticulture principles.
