About The Wine

Michele Chiarlo built one of Piedmont's most respected houses over seven decades, beginning in 1956. His sons Stefano and Alberto joined in the 1990s, carrying forward a family obsession with quality that started when Michele's father Pietro farmed the hills of Bubbio in 1898. This is a house that earned its reputation the slow way — vintage by vintage, vineyard by vineyard.

Cannubi is Barolo royalty. The vineyard sits in the heart of the appellation, a site that's been recognized for excellence since the denomination was ratified. Nebbiolo from Cannubi develops the grape's most sublime qualities: violet, rose petal, truffle, tar, and a structure that can age for decades. This is the vineyard serious Barolo collectors chase.

The 2022 vintage delivered bright garnet color with orange hues. Balsamic lift, violet, black fruits, truffle, and fine spices. Full-bodied and rich on entry, then elegant — silky tannins, long finish, subtle lime on the close. The wine shows remarkable volume without aggression, the hallmark of great Nebbiolo from a great site.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

There is something wild about this Barolo that surrounds you rather than announces itself, wild cherries, dried blood orange, allspice and dried roses drifting in like a warm summer dusty road blowing through an open window. Haunting is the right word. The palate gathers red berries and tart citrus with pink pepper and cork-like spices leading to crushed chalk while super fine tannins carry remarkable volume without a hint of aggression. Drink now to 2050. ~ 95 Wine Enthusiast

A graceful, spicy wine with aromas of mint, licorice, dried cherries, potpourri and balsamic. Full-bodied, it shows ripeness, velvety tannins, refreshing acidity and a long, savory finish. Classic and harmonious. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. ~94 James Suckling
