About The Wine

Papapietro Perry has been producing handcrafted, small-lot Pinot Noir since 1998, building a reputation for consistency and excellence across Sonoma County. Founded when Bruce Papapietro secured space at Windsor Oaks Winery, the operation has grown into a producer of nine distinct Pinot Noirs, each showcasing the unique character of their vineyard sources.

This Russian River Valley bottling is a meticulously crafted blend of fruit from top vineyards, balancing elegance with the region's signature richness. The 2022 vintage presented challenges across California, yet Papapietro Perry's wines emerged with notable elegance — a testament to their sourcing and winemaking discipline.

Deep ruby and mostly opaque, the wine opens with cherries, black cherries, and a hint of cinnamon and earthiness. The palate brings waves of raspberry, Bing cherry, and cranberry, with lively floral tones and a touch of baking spice. Very nice texture, good balance, and a long finish. Medium-bodied with integrated acidity, it drinks well on its own and pairs beautifully with earthy foods.

Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. This is the more elegant side of Russian River Valley Pinot — the kind of wine that makes you remember why the region matters.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The winery has several vineyard designated bottlings, but don’t think that this is a simple blend of the leftovers from each different site. I find that most often, winemakers try to make their “macro AVA” bottling be something delicious that speaks of the region’s best aspects. This hits the Russian River Valley markers of cherry, cola, and damp earth minerality in a bright, approachable wine that will run the table with your guests, meaning it’ll work from salad to cheese and everything in between. Nice. ~93 Wine Review Online

Lively floral tones and tart cherry-berry fruit aromas drive the nose of this Pinot. The palate brings waves of raspberry, Bing cherry and cranberry flavors with lavender-herb melange and cocoa. Drink this with grilled pork ribs. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
