About The Wine

Abeja sits in the foothills of Washington's Blue Mountains, a century-old farmstead turned winery estate surrounded by 38 acres of creeks, gardens, and vineyards. Since 2002, the family has built a reputation for Chardonnays that balance richness with tension — wines that drink well above their price point and outperform bottles twice the cost.

This 2023 comes from a range of Columbia Valley sites, a vintage marked by a delayed, cool spring that pushed bud break back two to three weeks and ultimately delivered low yields and remarkably concentrated fruit. What could have been a problem became an advantage: smaller clusters, deeper flavor, wines with more to say.

The wine opens with a burst of freshly squeezed lemon, apple blossoms, and grilled pineapple, then moves into a creamy, textured mid-palate layered with melon, minerality, and lemon chiffon. The finish is mouthcoating, quenching, and long — grapefruit, pome, and gooseberry unfurling through the close. It's fat on the mouth with buttercream, poached pear, and baking-spice challah flavors, yet it holds good underlying tension. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, beautifully balanced.

Owen Bargreen scored it 94, calling it a "stunning bottling" sourced from several Columbia Valley sites. For $46.99, you're drinking at a level most $70–$90 Chardonnays aspire to — and falling short of.
