About The Wine

Gary Andrus launched Archery Summit in 1993, driven by a passion for Pinot Noir and a belief in the untapped potential of the Willamette Valley. The founder of Pine Ridge Vineyards — where he championed vineyard-designate wines starting in 1978 — Andrus assembled five estate vineyards rooted in the Dundee Hills, one of Oregon's most respected sites for Burgundian varieties.

This Chardonnay comes from that same pedigree and place. Archery Summit debuted its first Chardonnay in 2016 to commemorate the winery's 25th anniversary, sourcing fruit from the cooler Eola-Amity Hills, where maritime winds through the Van Duzer corridor shape a vibrant, lively expression of the varietal. The Dundee Hills offer a complementary terroir — volcanic soils and elevation that yield tension and mineral drive.

The 2023 vintage follows Oregon's remarkable 2022 growing season, which survived devastating spring frost only to recover with a warm, dry Indian summer that extended into late October. The result: good maturity at lower temperatures than usual, with balance between vibrant acidity, tempting flavors, and substantive textures. This wine carries that legacy forward — a rich yet graceful Chardonnay built to cellar for up to five years, promising graceful evolution over time.

In the glass: captivating aromas of curry leaf and spiced pear open into an elegant bouquet of white flowers, honeysuckle, and chamomile. The palate delivers bright acidity and fresh citrus with a subtle touch of pith, finishing focused and linear. Wine Spectator scored it 92 points — proof of the pedigree, not the reason to buy. The reason is the name on the label and the hill beneath the vines.
