About The Wine

The Silva family planted Colchagua Valley's first vineyards in 1892 and built its oldest cellar — and they're still at it. Casa Silva remains 100% family-owned, now in its fourth generation, farming the same valley their ancestors pioneered. That kind of continuity doesn't happen by accident.

Los Lingues is a single vineyard within Colchagua Valley, and S38 marks a specific soil block within it — deep, stony ground that years of soil studies and micro-vinifications identified as producing Cabernet Sauvignon with exceptional freshness, balance, and depth. This is precision viticulture on a family estate that's been refining the same dirt for over a century.

Colchagua Valley is Chile's answer to Napa — the country's most prestigious red-wine region, where Cabernet Sauvignon ripens fully without losing structure. The 2023 vintage delivers exactly that: garnet and purple in the glass, cassis and blackberry on the nose, with white pepper and an oaky layer underneath. The palate is dry, rich, and structured with compact tannins that'll soften over the next few years. Drink window runs 2025–2031.

At $22, this is what smart drinking looks like. A single-vineyard Cabernet from one of Chile's most respected family estates, scoring 91 points, drinking like bottles that retail for twice the price. Free shipping on twelve.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

~ 94 Tim Atkin, Master of Wine.

Beautiful nose with a sweet cocoa note, along with mocha and cassis. The palate is juicy, with a sweet cassis note and real freshness as well. The tannins are dense and rich, with a chewy and ripe finish. Cherry and spice, with coffee and plums on the long and intense finish. Young and introverted, and needs a few years to come together. Impressive, powerful and full of potential. ~ 94 Alistair Cooper MW by Catad'Or Wine Guide

S38 is the sector or block from which Casa Silva selects the grapes for this 100% cabernet. The soils are balanced between colluvial rocks, clays, and sands, and their quality is such that, according to the winery's parameters, it is included in Casa Silva's historic top wine, Altura. This year, which was warm throughout the Central Valley, has done its job here, making it soft and ripe with sweet tones of red and black fruits, but also with a pronounced accent on spices and nuts. A warm wine for winter. ~ 93 Descorchados

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon S38 from Los Lingues, Colchagua was aged for 12 months in oak for four-fifths of the blend, while the rest was kept as a fruit reserve. The nose features black fruit preserves, blackberry, currant and sweet oak, along with hints of boldo and spice. This is indulgent and full-bodied, with a juicy mid-palate, structured tannins and a clingy, flavorful finish. ~92 Vinous

Honoring the renowned red wines of Los Lingues, Colchagua Valley, this Cabernet Sauvignon impresses with a delicate bouquet of spices. Savory flavors of plums and paprika mingle with fresh notes of eucalyptus, adding depth to the silky palate. ~92 Wine Enthusiast

Casa Silva Los Lingues Cabernet blends minty pot-pourri and graphite with cassis, damson and dried-herb spice; sinewy tannins and subtle oak give focus—cellar to 2026–2031 and pair with roast beef. ~91 Natalie MacLean

A tad austere and savory, offering dusty floral and chicory notes amid a cedar-accented cherry and plum core. There's freshness on the back end, allowing the flavors to play out while adding a hint of kirsch around slightly chewy tannins. Distinctive. Drink now. ~91 James Suckling
