Excellent depth and energy on the nose, with a solid core of racy berries, dark cherries, chalk, red peppercorns and mussel shells. Fruit-expressive but also tense on the palate, with a medium to full body and a juicy, fine-grained finish. Fleshy and seamless. One of the best Barde-Hauts. Drink now or hold.~95 James Suckling
Gorgeous black cherries, graphite, chalky minerality, and leafy tobacco all emerge from the 2023 Château Barde-Haut. It's deeply hued and has a ripe, layered, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, beautiful purity and precision, ripe tannins, and plenty of that classic limestone-like minerality. Drink this ripe, textured, already accessible Saint-Emilion over the coming two decades. ~94 Jeb Dunnuck
The 2023 Barde-Haut is a powerful, dense wine from Saint-Émilion's Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes sector. Ample and resonant, the 2023 wraps the palate in blue/purplish berry fruit, mocha, spice and new leather. There's terrific breadth here. ~94 Vinous Media

THE PRODUCER
Chateau Barde-Haut
Château Barde-Haut is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate in Bordeaux, set on a 17-hectare vineyard of clay-limestone soils overlooking the Dordogne valley. Owned by Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard since 2000 and managed by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and Patrice Lévêque, the estate has undergone a major renaissance, earning Grand Cru Classé status in 2012. Its wines are predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc, combining the richness and depth of Saint-Émilion with the freshness and structure provided by its limestone terroir.
