Fattoria San Michele a Torri has been making wine since the Middle Ages on land fifteen kilometers outside Florence, where the Chianti Colli Fiorentini and Chianti Classico zones meet.

The current owner, Paolo Nocentini, revived the estate's traditional farming — over a thousand hectares, with 222 dedicated to vineyards worked organically from clone selection through harvest.

Tenuta La Gabbiola is named for the vineyard that supplies its Sangiovese and Syrah fruit. Old vines are preserved for selection massale; the rows are bordered by hedges and woodland for ecological balance. Protection starts with organic fertilization and minimal sulfur treatments — never more than 30 ppm free SO2. Only healthy grapes make it to the cellar, where fermentation runs twelve days in steel, followed by at least twenty months in 25-hectoliter oak barrels.

The wine pours dense ruby. The nose opens on blackberry, plum, black currant, and toasted wood. The palate is velvety and dry, with firm but soft tannins riding a lively acid line — gravel, spice, earth, leather, dried fruit. The finish holds.
