About the Wine

It begins long before the first vine was planted.

In the heart of Napa Valley lies land shaped by fire, fault lines, and the footsteps of those who lived here millennia before wine was even imagined. The Wappo people hunted, gathered, and lived along the once-teeming banks of the Napa River, giving rhythm to a landscape that still remembers them.

Centuries later, grape growers and ranchers settled into these same folds of earth—each adding a quiet chapter to the valley’s unfolding story. In 2003, viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson planted their own roots here, drawn by soils that speak and climates that demand attention. Coombsville became home base; Oakville followed as a bold new frontier. From those first garage-made barrels to distinct vineyards in two AVAs, the work has always felt less like invention and more like listening—to what the land already knew.

They farm with organic and biodynamic sensitivity, encourage native biodiversity, and let minimal intervention guide winemaking so each site’s voice can emerge. Erickson’s career has seen him shape wines for some of Napa’s most acclaimed estates, and he’s taken leadership roles in the region’s community—most recently serving as chair of the Napa Valley Vintners board—emphasizing advocacy and stewardship that extend beyond any single label.

From this philosophy comes a wine that distills the essence of place.

The 2023 Napa Valley vintage isn’t just another great year – it’s the year that will be etched in history. Wine experts are calling it "the vintage of a lifetime," and for good reason. The perfect blend of cool temperatures, morning fog, and balanced sunlight created conditions so exceptional that they’re being compared to Bordeaux's iconic 1961 vintage. As The Wine Independent put it, 2023 is "a winemaker's dream in terms of wine style." Wine Bible author Karen MacNeil calls it "one of the most phenomenal vintages ever in Napa Valley." This is Napa at its finest, with wines of depth, power, and elegance that will be the talk of the wine world for decades to come.

Tasting Notes

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot.

This 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will certainly evolve in the cellar, but it has been crafted to be enjoyed right away. Dark red fruits, red raspberries, graphite and exotic woods are just a few of the complexities that come forward immediately. The savory tones and freshness of Coombsville meld well with the generous black fruits and solid structure of Oakville. Careful tannin extraction, barrel aging for twenty months in 50% new French oak barrels, and botting without fining or filtration, ensure that the wine retains fruit intensity and maintains its bold texture and generous length.

Critical Reviews

In a new beginning for Favia, an equal blend of Coombsville and Oakville represents the best of both appellations—the fresh, savory, mineral edge of the former intertwining with the deep flavor and floral lift of the latter. Layers of fruit, supported by graphite, dried herbs, flowers and spices, lead to a luscious yet refined palate with finely tuned tannins and a bright line of acidity. A complete, balanced expression of Napa. 75% cabernet sauvignon, 21% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. Excellent. Drink or hold. ~98 James Suckling

What our customers say about us

Favia Winery

Napa Valley, California

Favia Winery is a boutique Napa Valley label born from the collaboration of viticulturalist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson, rooted in Coombsville with vineyards also in Oakville. Since the early 2000s, it has focused on soulful, site-expressive wines—especially small-yield Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends—crafted with gentle, minimal intervention and an eye for the unique soils and microclimates of each site.

Deeply connected to the land and its rhythms, Favia’s story weaves thoughtful farming with decades of experience in some of Napa’s most renowned vineyards, resulting in wines that feel both distinctive and deeply tied to their place.
