About The Wine

Rod Bergland founded La Crema Vinera in 1979 in a Petaluma business park after apprenticing under Joseph Swan, learning the minimal-intervention techniques that would shape the house style. Jackson Family Wines acquired the operation in 1993, invested over $12 million into the Russian River Valley facility, and built La Crema into one of the fifty largest wineries in California — over 360,000 cases annually, all grounded in cool-climate precision.

Sonoma County Cabernet occupies a middle kingdom between Napa's power and coastal restraint. The Russian River fog reaches inland valleys, tempering the fruit without stripping its spine. You get black-fruit intensity without the jammy thump of warmer sites — structure that holds the wine together, acidity that keeps it alive on the table.

Pretty aromas of violets and pencil shavings mingle with blackberry and plum. The palate is mid-bodied and juicy, with balanced acid and tannin framing flavors of black cherry jam, salty plum compote, black pepper, dry cocoa, and cinnamon.

La Crema built its reputation on Chardonnay and Pinot — this Cabernet marks a smart expansion into red Bordeaux varieties, using the same cool-climate instincts that made the whites successful. Six-pack format makes the per-bottle math even sharper.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Though not yet labeled as such, this is all Pocket Peak fruit. The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County pours a youthful purple/magenta-rimmed color and balances mountain fruit with plush accessibility. A blend including 20% Merlot raised in both French and American oak, it reveals granite, plum compote, blueberry, vanilla, and floral spice. Full-bodied and youthful, it has coating fruit balanced by enough acidity to remain lifted. ~91 Jeb Dunnuck

Pretty aromas of violets and pencil shavings mingle with blackberry and plum on the nose of this wine. The palate is mid-bodied and juicy, with balanced acid and tannin framing flavors of black cherry jam, salty plum compote, black pepper, dry cocoa, and cinnamon. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
