About The Wine

Louisa Sawyer Lindquist made her name doing the hard thing first — she planted Spanish varietals on the Central Coast when nobody else would, and bottled California's first commercial Albariño back in 2000. So when someone with that kind of instinct for freshness and balance turns her hand to Cabernet, you pay attention. Antonio Galloni put it plainly: Verdad built its name on Spanish grapes, but the Cabernet is a very fine wine in its own right — and not a shy one.

The fruit is all Two Wolves Vineyard, an organically farmed site sitting right on the Happy Canyon line in the Los Olivos District — Santa Ynez's proven address for serious Cabernet. 2023 gave her a cool, patient season after a winter of drought-breaking rain refilled the water table. Small yields, deep concentration. She picked October 17, fermented gently with twice-daily hand punch-downs, and aged the wine 20 months in 50% new Taransaud barrels.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Ripe plum and cassis lead, layered with sweet spice and a lift of mint and crushed flowers. A cigar-box note underneath gives it some swagger. Balanced and structured, with a long, satisfying finish.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Two Wolves Vineyard is a well-crafted, classically styled wine. Fresh red berry fruit and juicy acidity give it lift, while cedar, rose petal and tobacco leaf tones add nuance. The 2023 is elegant and well-proportioned, with plenty of structure to carry it forward. The 50% new wood is particularly well integrated. ~93 Vinous Media

THE PRODUCER

Two Wolves

Pink owns Two Wolves Wine located in Santa Ynez Valley, California. Spotted eagle-owls were introduced to the vineyard as natural predators to control mice foraging on vine root systems. Vantage posts were erected in all the vineyards for owls to perch while hunting at night. Owls established themselves in densely wooded areas on the farm due to abundance of food. P!nk (Alecia Moore) bought an organic vineyard in California's Santa Ynez Valley in 2013, sight unseen, while on tour in Australia. Her first vintage was 2014. Two Wolves Winery is named after a Cherokee legend about balance. The winery is certified organic since day one. The team was built with five women. Two Wolves Vineyard is located on the border of the Happy Canyon AVA in the Los Olivos District. Neethlingshof Wine Estate was founded in 1692 by German settler Willem Barend Lubbe on the Bottelary Hills.
