About The Wine

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue has stewarded Chambolle-Musigny's top terroirs for 20 generations — since 1450. The estate owns approximately 80 percent of grand cru Le Musigny and holds a commanding position in the appellation's hierarchy. Current winemaker Francois Millet employs low-intervention techniques to coax the best out of each vineyard's terroir.

Les Amoureuses sits upslope, separated from grand cru Musigny by a small road. Vogue's rows occupy the highest part of the vineyard — the soils mirror Musigny's character, with lots of stones, little soil, and sand mixed through. It's often called a grand cru in its own right, and it ages in step with the top bottles. The plot's power and elegance explain why collectors hunt it.

Hand-harvested in small crates, the fruit sees 50% whole-cluster fermentation on indigenous yeasts in tank. Only delicate pump-overs during fermentation. Aged in French oak with 30% new wood, unfiltered. The approach is minimal intervention — the terroir does the talking.

Aromas of ripe raspberries and plums, light pepper, earthy notes. Suave and profound on the palate, with silky tannins that stretch long. Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru at this level is Pinot Noir in its most refined, most age-worthy form — the kind of bottle that justifies a cellar and a timeline.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

"De Vogüé’s Amoureuses is particularly good in 2024, even though it isn’t a ‘typical’ Amoureuses. It isn’t the rich, velvety wine that might come to mind, but it has a forward plummy fruit, lively freshness and a hint of saline minerality that make it delicious just the same. There are only 0.25ha in production due to aggressive replanting; the domaine produced only two barrels in 2024 because of the weather. The quality of the wine, however, makes it worth seeking out." ~95 Decanter

"The 2024 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is reduced to two barrels partly due to the inclement season but also because half the vines were pulled out in 2021. It has an open-knit nose with red cherries, cranberry and rose petal scents, perhaps just missing a little opulence like many wines this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-fresh entry, candied orange peel infusing the red fruit, modest weight with a slightly salty liquorice-tinged finish. Very elegant in style, a victory against the odds." ~95 Vinous Media
