About The Wine

Ehren Jordan built Failla after 18 years as winemaker at Turley Wine Cellars, and the difference is intentional. Where Turley chased power, Failla chases finesse — a 180-degree turn toward cool-climate grace, low alcohol, and the kind of structure that makes you reach for food. Jordan's philosophy is simple: get great fruit, then do no harm. He prefers older vines, minimal intervention, and wines built for the table.

Anderson Valley sits in Mendocino's fog belt, where Pacific air funnels through the coastal range and holds temperatures down. It's one of California's coldest Pinot sites — the kind of place that gives you Burgundian tension without the Burgundian passport. Savoy Vineyard joined Failla's Pinot program in 2012, and it's been part of the lineup ever since.

The 2024 vintage delivers exactly what Jordan's after: mulberry and boysenberry preserves, black cherry, plum, graphite. Then leather, incense, tobacco — the savory turn that keeps it from feeling like fruit salad in a glass. There's rose hip and iris woven through, the floral lift that cool sites deliver when the fruit doesn't over-ripen. The acidity is high, the alcohol restrained, and the whole thing is built to sit at a table with short ribs or duck.

This is Pinot for people who think California Pinot tastes like jam. It doesn't. Not when it's grown in the right place by someone who knows when to stop.

THE PRODUCER

Failla Wines

Failla Wines was founded in 1998 by Ehren Jordan and has built its reputation around expressive, cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah from some of California’s most distinctive coastal sites. Based in Sonoma County, the winery sources fruit from vineyards influenced by fog, wind, and the Pacific, allowing the wines to retain vibrant acidity, texture, and site character. Failla takes a thoughtful, low-intervention approach in the cellar, producing elegant, mineral-driven wines that balance California fruit with the restraint and complexity of Old World styles.
