About The Wine

Fattoria Coroncino was founded by Lucio and Fiorella Canestrari in 1981 in Staffolo, the heart of Castelli di Jesi. Lucio was one of the pioneering generation of Verdicchio producers — the generation that proved this grape could deliver serious, age-worthy whites when farming and winemaking matched ambition to terroir.

Today his son Vale continues the work from 17 hectares of organically farmed vines, producing about 50,000 bottles a year.

Il Bacco is the estate's serious Verdicchio, sourced entirely from two vineyards with a high proportion of clay — the Cerrete and Spescia parcels. The fruit comes from low-yielding vines planted on calcareous marl at 400 meters with southwest exposure. A portion ferments in 500-liter oak barrels; the rest in stainless steel. The wine ages on its lees for several months, then spends a year in bottle before release. This is not cold-fermented, insipid Verdicchio — it's a bold, textural, deeply mineral white built to age.

The 2024 shows a wide range of fruit — pineapple to citrus, green apple to pear — layered with almond, candied citron, and flint. Full, fresh, savory palate with good structure and mineral depth. Drinks rich and textural with a briny echo of clay soils. It's fragrant, dry, zesty and saline. Full of punch and savory deliciousness.

Pull the cork tonight — it'll still be hitting its stride in five years.

THE PRODUCER

Fattoria Coroncino

Fattoria Coroncino was founded by Lucio and Fiorella Canestrari in 1981. The winery is located in Staffolo, in the heart of the Castelli dei Jesi zone. They own around 17 hectares of vineyards and produce about 50,000 bottles a year. The family has practiced organic viticulture since the winery's inception. Lucio's son Vale continues to produce Verdicchio after Lucio's passing. Lucio Canestrari founded Fattoria Coroncino in 1981. Lucio Canestrari is one of the pioneering generation of Verdicchio producers in Castelli di Jesi. The winery started production with a few bottles, and from the 1989 harvest of '88, began producing more. The farm has been grassing vineyards since 1983, integrating insects and vine health since 1992, and has used no fertilizers since 1995. Fattoria Coroncino is recognized as one of Italy's finest producers of Verdicchio.
