About The Wine

Most people meet Nebbiolo through a $70 Barolo and never look at the map again. That's the mistake. Same noble grape, same Piedmont — just grown in Monferrato, where the price hasn't caught up to the pedigree yet.

Here's the geography that matters. La Bollina sits in Serravalle Scrivia, in the hills of Alto Monferrato — the same slice of southeastern Piedmont that made its name on Gavi. This is a serious address: a 120-hectare estate that was once the summer residence of the Marquises Figari of Genoa, wrapped in vineyards and chestnut woods, with an Art Nouveau villa, a four-star hotel, and a nine-hole golf course running through the vines. Nobody builds that to make weekend plonk.

The hands in the cellar belong to Andrea Bernardini, a consulting winemaker who trained at Pisa — one of Italy's top enology schools — cut his teeth at Poggio Bonelli and Ruffino in Tuscany, then chased harvests through South Africa, Romania, and Greece. His whole game is modern technique in service of the grape: a cold pre-fermentation soak to pull color and perfume gently, then twelve months in used French oak so the wood supports the fruit instead of burying it.

What you get is Nebbiolo without the decade-long wait. Ruby red with that telltale orange glint at the rim, floral and lifted, with fresh red fruit, a little citrus snap, a whisper of spice, and tannins that show up polished instead of punishing. It's the friendly, food-loving side of a famously demanding grape. Pour it with mushroom risotto, meat-sauce ravioli, or a Sunday roast — it knows exactly what to do.

100% Nebbiolo. Ruby red with a signature orange glint at the rim. The nose is floral and fresh — red fruit, a lift of citrus, a delicate note of spice. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, with polished tannins and a bright, savory finish that keeps reaching for the next bite.
