About the Wine

Here's a secret every Burgundy sommelier knows: if you love Pouilly-Fuissé but not its price tag, Saint-Véran is the answer.

Saint-Véran wraps around Pouilly-Fuissé "like a golden belt" (as the Burgundy wine board describes it) at the southern tip of the Mâconnais, sharing the same limestone-rich slopes, the same Chardonnay grape, and much of the same sunny, approachable style — but at a fraction of the cost. This is classic white Burgundy for a Tuesday night, not a once-a-year splurge.

2024 vintage is particularly worth paying attention to. While much of Burgundy suffered severe yield losses from relentless rain, frost, and mildew, the Mâconnais was largely spared the worst of it — and Chardonnay proved more resilient than Pinot Noir throughout the region. Critics and merchants have already declared the whites the "unambiguous star" of 2024, calling them the most classical Burgundian whites since the legendary 2014 vintage. Expect precision, tension, citrus-driven aromatics, and the kind of energy that has been increasingly rare in warmer recent years.

Maison André Goichot has been quietly sourcing exceptional Burgundy since 1947, when André-Marcel Goichot started the family négociant house near Meursault. Three generations later, the family still runs the business from Beaune, with 35 hectares of estate vineyards and deep relationships with growers across the region. Their Saint-Véran is fermented entirely in stainless steel — both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations — then aged approximately 12 months before bottling. That stainless steel approach keeps the focus where it should be: on Chardonnay's bright fruit and that signature Mâconnais minerality, without the heavy oak that can obscure terroir.

Pour it with appetizers, roast chicken, shellfish, charcuterie, or goat cheese — or do as the locals do and match it with escargot and you'll understand why Saint-Véran has been Burgundy's best-kept secret for decades.

Tasting Notes

100% Chardonnay.

A luminous green-gold color in the glass. The nose opens with peach, apricot, white flowers, bergamot, and a touch of lemon zest, layered with a subtle mineral lift — flint and crushed stone — that's the signature of Mâconnais limestone.

The palate is round and balanced, with frank, direct fruit and a fresh, lemony finish that gives the wine real life. Fermented entirely in stainless steel and aged approximately 12 months before bottling. Drink now through 2028; serve well-chilled at 10–12°C.
