About the Wine
Fiano is the Italian white that's about to blow your mind—and it's been Italy's best-kept secret for way too long. This isn't some simple white that fades after a year. Fiano ages like a champion, developing incredible complexity that rivals the world's greatest bottles. Think Italy's answer to German Riesling—starts amazing, gets better with time.
If you love exceptional whites from Germany, Burgundy, or Sancerre, Fiano needs to be your next obsession. This grape delivers serious quality and irresistible flavors at prices that actually make sense. While everyone else chases the same old bottles, smart wine lovers are discovering what Italians have known for centuries—Fiano is world-class sophistication without the ridiculous markup.
Just an hour from Naples (birthplace of pizza) and the ancient ruins of Pompeii lies one of Italy's most exciting wine discoveries. Meet Nativ Winery, founded in 2008 in Irpinia's heart by the legendary Dr. Mario Ercolino and Dr. Roberta Pirone.
For those who don’t know, Dr. Mario Ercolino is a titan in the Italian wine industry. If you've heard of the iconic Feudi di San Gregorio, a cult favorite among Italian wine lovers, it's thanks to Ercolino, who redefined Southern Italian wine and put that winery on the map. He was also at the helm of San Marzano producing some of the highest awarded wines from Puglia. Now, his focus is on his own brand Nativ from Irpinia, a region poised to rival the world's most celebrated winegrowing areas.
Here's why this matters: Irpinia sits on rich volcanic soils from ancient Mount Vesuvius eruptions, with layers of ash, pumice, and basalt creating mineral-rich, perfectly-drained terroir that's absolute magic for native grapes like Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, Falanghina, and the powerhouse Aglianico. Nativ’s wines are made from native grapes (hence the name) that have defined the region for centuries, representing the true essence of “Made in Italy.”
In one of Greg Martellotto’s incredible journeys to Italy, he discovered Nativ Winery. As one of only 415 "Italian Wine Ambassadors" in the world, Greg was so impressed by Nativ's exceptional wines that he decided to import them directly to Big Hammer Wines. We’re proud to be the direct importers of this stunning gem, bringing you the very best of Irpinia!
Fun Fact: Via del Crinale gets its name from the stunning ridge west of San Quirico where the winery sits. This picturesque hilltop location is so incredible, they decided to honor it by naming their Fiano di Avellino after the exact spot where the magic happens. When your vineyard location is this gorgeous, why wouldn't you put it on the bottle?
Tasting Notes

Critical Reviews
~96 Luca Maroni, I Migliori Vini Italiani, Italy's Best Wines Guide 2022
Pineapple, lemons, almonds and aniseed on the nose of this tangy, fruity white. It’s medium-bodied with lemony acidity and a tropical- fruit character. Drink now. ~90 James Suckling
