About The Wine

Decanter said, "Ramato is for the wine lover who wants more from their Pinot Grigio, but don't go thinking it's just another rosé or orange wine."

Ramato is a wine style produced with Pinot Grigio. Its origins are rooted in the heart of Friuli but have recently gotten attention from winemakers around the world. Ramato comes from the word ‘rame’ which means ‘copper’ in Italian. This distinctive wine style is produced when Pinot Grigio grapes are crushed and their skins are left in contact with the juice, resulting in a tactile texture and a coppery color.

The family behind Stocco has carried a sword on their crest for generations — 'Stocco' itself is an old Italian word for sword — and the steadfastness shows in every bottle. They farm the Grave terroir in Friuli, a region that sits between the Alps and the Adriatic, where gravelly alluvial soils and cool mountain-fed breezes give white wines more structure and lift than you'd find further south.

This is Pinot Grigio Ramato, the copper-skinned expression that defined Friuli centuries before the clear, mass-produced stuff took over. "Ramato" — from "rame," copper — refers to the brief skin contact that turns the wine a burnished straw-amber and unlocks texture, weight, and a signature bitterish snap on the finish. It's 100% Pinot Grigio from flat gravelly land, hand-harvested and made with restraint.

In the glass: straw-yellow with hints of amber. Fresh aromatics of pear, citrus, white flower. Soft, generous palate with fruit-rich notes and a delicate bitter finish — the kind of wine that works as an aperitivo, stands up to whitefish crudo with chili, or just pulls its weight at the table without asking for attention. Light-bodied but not insubstantial.

THE PRODUCER

Stocco

FIOL brand was founded in 2010 by a group of friends born in Treviso, the capital of prosecco region. FIOL is produced in the countryside in the surroundings of Treviso and is distributed worldwide. 3GP is the company which produces FIOL and is managed by an independent team based in Treviso. Tito Ciani Bassetti is the chairman of the company. In the ancient Venetian language the word 'fiol' means 'son' and also 'young boy', commonly used to address the 'cool guy'. The family crest has long been a symbol of the family's identity and values of strength, steadfastness and respect for the land. 'Stocco' comes from an old Italian word for 'sword'. The work is guided by these values and is dedicated to capturing the aromas of their terroir, 'Grave', to create wines that give joy in discovering the nuances, unique character and perfect elegance of Stocco Friulan wines.
