About The Wine

Vino Lauria is the story of Vito Lauria coming home. His grandfather founded the family winery in Alcamo in 1958, but it closed in 1993. After studying enology in Friuli and working with wineries across Northern Italy, Vito returned to Sicily in 2005 determined to bring the family winery back to life. Five years later, he released his first wines under the Vino Lauria name.

Today, Vito farms organically and works primarily with Sicily's native grapes, with a clear preference for freshness, balance, and character over the bigger, heavier style sometimes associated with Sicilian reds.

Zio Paolo is 100% Nero d'Avola, Sicily's signature red grape. Grown around Alcamo, where Mediterranean breezes temper the island's intense sunshine, the variety can deliver plenty of ripe fruit without losing its brightness. That's exactly the sweet spot Vito finds here.

The 2024 vintage is wonderfully expressive, opening with violet, wild strawberry and ripe red fruit, followed by a subtle powdered-sugar note that gives the wine an almost playful character.

There's plenty of sun-ripened fruit, but bright acidity keeps everything lifted and fresh rather than heavy.

It's a Nero d'Avola with energy, not weight. The kind of Sicilian red you can pour with dinner, but just as easily keep reaching for once the plates are cleared.

Pair it with grilled beef, venison, sausages, or anything coming off the barbecue—or don't overthink it. Zio Paolo is made for the second glass.

Serious native Sicilian fruit, organically farmed and made with restraint.

THE PRODUCER

Vino Lauria

Vino Lauria is Vito Lauria’s personal project in Alcamo, western Sicily. After studying enology in Friuli and working with wineries in northern Italy, Vito returned home in 2005 to revive his family’s old winery.

Today, he farms organically and focuses on Sicily’s native grapes—Grillo, Catarratto, Zibibbo, Nero d’Avola, Perricone and Frappato—making wines that favor freshness, balance and varietal character over the ripe, heavy style often associated with Sicily.
