About The Wine

Soave Classico earned DOC recognition in 1968 one of the first Italian white wines to receive the designation — and has been celebrated for its quality since antiquity. The classic zone sits on volcanic soils in the province of Verona, where the mineral backbone in the glass tells you exactly where the wine is from.

Campagnola has been making wine in Valgatara for five generations. Carlo Campagnola entered the trade young; in 1907, Caterina Zardini won the medal for best Recioto at the Verona Wine Exhibition. By 1926, Giuseppe Campagnola and his brothers had acquired the Antica Osteria ai Portoni Borsari in Verona, and in the 1940s Giuseppe moved with his sons Giancarlo and Luigi to the current estate in Valgatara, where the family still works today.

Villa Leone is mainly Garganega — the grape that gives Soave its characteristic fruity aromatics and bright freshness — with Trebbiano adding structure and acidity. The wine shows a straw yellow color with light greenish reflections. The nose is rich with wildflowers and delicate, fresh florals. On the palate, you get a pleasant harmony of sapidity and minerality — the volcanic soils doing their work.

This is the wine you reach for when you want clean, refreshing Italian white that drinks well above its price and pairs with everything from seafood to soft cheeses. Pull the cork tonight.
