Chateau Laroque's roots reach back to the 12th century, when a tower was built on this Saint-Emilion hill — the beginning of a tradition that survived wars, economic collapse, and centuries of reinvention. The chateau itself was raised in the 17th century by the Marquis de Rochefort-Lavie. After the Great Depression shuttered production in 1929, the estate lay dormant until the Beaumartin family bought it in 1935, replanted in 1962, and set the stage for a modern resurrection that arrived in 2015.

Today the estate spans 61 hectares — 40 of them classified Saint-Emilion Grand Cru — rooted in clay and limestone that give Merlot its structure and Cabernet Franc its lift. The blend here is 87% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, shaped by soils that have been growing wine since the Middle Ages.

The 2025 is a pre-arrival future: 99% Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc. Blue fruit, blackberry, and crushed stone over pure black cherry and raspberry. Full and substantial, with fine, firm tannins, real transparency and minerality, and a long, crunchy finish. Built to age with style.

This is Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from an estate that refused to stay quiet. The 2025 is young, structured, and ready to evolve for a decade or longer — one of the Right Bank's most compelling futures for collectors building depth.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

The 2022 Laroque is even better from bottle than it was en primeur. Dark, rich and enveloping, the 2022 is seriously impressive. Black cherry, leather, licorice, dried herbs and mocha race across the palate. The possesses superb depth and nuance while capturing all of the richness of the year. Laroque is very clearly one of the sleepers of the year. Superb. ~95 AG-VM

Another impressive performance from this estate, the 2022 Laroque offers up aromas of sweet berries, violets, iris and exotic spices, followed by a medium to the full-bodied, layered palate with a rich core of fruit that's framed by lively acids, concluding with a taut, chalky finish. Once again, it's the result of a strict selection that sees only 45% of the production released as the grand vin. ~93-95 WA

A very classic Bordeaux with medium to full body, firm tannins, and crunchy character, with a linear nature. Currants and blackberries. Sandalwood, too. Fresh. ~93-94 JS

The 2022 Laroque was picked at 41hL/ha between 14 and 30 September, representing 45% of the total production. It has a clean and precise bouquet with brambly red fruit, hints of liquorice, and iodine. Quite voluptuous in style, though thankfully, it retains delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe red fruit. Fine structure, very supple in the mouth. The lightly spiced finish comes across just a little sweeter than I would have liked, prompting me to be a bit more cautious with my score than I otherwise might have been. ~92-94 NM-VM

THE PRODUCER

Chateau Laroque

Chateau Laroque's story begins in the 12th century when a small tower was erected, laying the foundation for what would become an illustrious winemaking tradition. Fast forward to the 17th century, and the magnificent Chateau we know today was brought to life by the visionary Marquis de Rochefort-Lavie.
