About The Wine

February 15, 1585. That's the date the d'Attimis-Maniago family took the hill at Buttrio, in the Friuli Colli Orientali east of Udine. Four and a half centuries later, the estate still sits where it always sat, on marl and sandstone soil streaked with clay — locals call it ponca.

Friuli built its reputation on white wine, and this family kept working it. The d'Attimis philosophy is simple: "Our wines already exist in nature, in our plants and our vineyards. We worry about one thing and one thing only: taking care of it, so that it grows strong." The result is a multi-varietal white blend that punches well above its price — the kind of clarity and structure you'd expect from bottles asking twice as much.

This 2025 shows what ponca soil does to the grapes: mineral tension, bright fruit, and a finish that doesn't quit. The blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Picolit, and Merlot — a Friulian mix that shows both the estate's range and its technical control.

Open it tonight with grilled fish, roast chicken, or aged Parmigiano. It'll make grocery-store white blends taste like a different category of liquid.
