Wine critic James Suckling said Chablis “Delivers such purity, refreshment and are just always so enjoyable,” we agree.
Nestled in the picturesque village of Prehy, just two hours southeast of Paris lies the renowned Domaine Vincent Wengier, where their passion for winemaking has flourished since 1950.
Spanning over 66 acres and encompassing four prestigious appellations, Domaine Vincent Wengier is a haven of biodiversity. Owner Vincent and his wife Sophie's commitment to the land, the people, and the environment, has paid off when in 2020, they received their HVE3 certification. Since 2022, they started pursuing the conversion to a fully organic vineyard.
With meticulous attention to detail, Vincent and Sophie ensure that every vine is nurtured in their clay-limestone soil, derived from the illustrious Kimmeridgian, a unique soil type found only in Chablis, Champagne, and southern England. This ancient soil, (180 million-year-old to be exact) is made up of clay and limestone that contains fossilized oyster shells.
From vineyard to bottle, every step is a testament to the Wengier family's unwavering dedication to excellence. Vincent’s expertise has shaped the wines of Domaine Vincent Wengier into an embodiment of tradition, craftsmanship, and unparalleled quality.
Vaillons Chablis Premier Cru is named after the Latin word 'valis,' meaning 'small valley.' Vaillons is a small cru that features 8 distinct lieux-dits. With a predominantly limestone soil base on hard Portlandian limestone, it encapsulates the diversity of Chablis terroir in one appellation. It gets lots of sunshine in the morning because it faces southeast. The grapes grow in shallow soil, which helps them ripen fast. In some areas, the soil is deeper and has a lot of Kimmeridgian limestone, which gives the wine a special flavor.
Thanks to its unique terroir, Chablis is the perfect pairing for oysters and fresh seafood and summertime. You can’t have summer and not include this wine!
Chablis is loved by wine geeks and everyday drinkers alike for its characteristic minerality and finesse. If you haven't had the pleasure of falling in love with Chablis yet, what are you waiting for?
