Why Lebanese Wines?
Ancient roots, a 1,000-meter-high valley, and wineries that never stopped - not even during war.
The Bekaa Valley
Nearly all Lebanese wine grows on this high plateau: hot days, cool nights, old-vine Cinsault, Carignan and Grenache beside Cabernet - plus the native whites Obaideh and Merwah.
The Musar Legend
Chateau Musar made wine through fifteen years of civil war, missing only two vintages. Decanter named Serge Hochar its first-ever Man of the Year. We've poured the 2008 - it converts skeptics in one glass.
We Source Wine Globally
Lebanon included - Musar above all. If you're looking for a specific wine, contact us today and we'll provide a quote. Special-order wines have a 12-bottle minimum.
A Wine Journey Through Lebanon
Small country, giant stories.
Chateau Ksara, est. 1857
Lebanon's oldest working winery, founded by Jesuit priests, with two kilometers of Roman-era caves beneath it. We've poured its Blanc de l'Observatoire and Cuvee Speciale Cabernet.
The High Vineyards
The Bekaa sits at roughly 1,000 meters - altitude keeps the acidity while the Mediterranean sun ripens everything. It is the engine of Lebanese wine.
The New Wave
Boutique estates like Chateau Belle-Vue on Mount Lebanon are pushing quality further. Production stays tiny - which is exactly why these wines reward the hunt.
Lebanese Wine, Answered
What is Chateau Musar?
Lebanon's legendary winery, founded 1930. Under Serge Hochar it made wine through the civil war - grapes trucked across front lines - missing only two vintages in fifteen years. The Cinsault-led reds age like great Bordeaux with a wilder soul, released only when ready.
What wine does Lebanon make?
Mostly reds from old-vine Cinsault, Carignan and Grenache plus Cabernet and Syrah - and golden, age-worthy whites from the native grapes Obaideh and Merwah. Nearly everything grows in the high Bekaa Valley.
Why is the Bekaa Valley special?
Altitude. At roughly 1,000 meters between two mountain ranges, the valley pairs hot, dry days with cool nights - full ripeness with fresh acidity, organic farming made easy by the dry air.
How old is Lebanese winemaking?
As old as it gets: the Phoenicians exported wine from this coast three thousand years ago and carried vines across the Mediterranean. Chateau Ksara has made wine continuously since 1857 in Roman-era caves.
Does Big Hammer Wines carry Lebanese wine?
