About the Wine

In 2012, Nelson and Penny's dream of creating high-quality Napa Cabernets came to life, and Chivalry Wines was born. The concept was hatched on a sunny Napa morning, where the idea of crafting premium boutique wines became a reality. From its inception, Chivalry Wines set its sights on the pinnacle of Napa's Cabernet excellence.

Chivalry's dream team features two extraordinary talents: Kian Tavakoli, the esteemed former winemaker of Opus One, and Israel Montanez, Chivalry's head winemaker—an iconic figure in Napa Valley. With over two decades of winemaking experience in Napa Valley and a prestigious background that includes William Hill, Franciscan, and Far Niente, Israel consistently crafts vintages that earn acclaim and distinction.

Chivalry Wines is synonymous with dedication to quality. Rather than relying on grower contracts, they embark on an annual quest to seek out the finest grapes, ensuring an unwavering commitment to excellence. As harvest season approaches, you'll find Israel, Penny, and Nelson in the vineyards, meticulously sampling for quality and ripeness. Once the perfect vineyard is discovered, Israel Montanez lends his expertise to guide the growers, ensuring that the grapes are harvested to precise specifications. Attention to detail is paramount, from monitoring brix to verifying the ripeness of seeds and grapes. This meticulous approach is the cornerstone of the exceptional wines that Chivalry Wines produces.

The 2012 Chivalry Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, as the winery's inaugural vintage, embodies the very essence of Chivalry Wines' mission, and what a remarkable vintage it turned out to be. In 2012, Napa Valley experienced excellence, earning an impressive 96-point rating from both Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator. The latter described it as "A solid vintage across the board marked by a tannic spine that will age well."

Aging: 24 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich, velvety, and full-bodied, this vintage offers luscious blackberry and cassis notes, complemented by hints of cedar and vanilla. With well-integrated tannins and a sustained finish.
