2013 Northstar Merlot Columbia Valley Washington
- Made like any $100+ wine from Napa or Bordeaux
- Consistently one of the top rated wineries in WA
- BHW has one of the lowest prices
About the Wine
Northstar is already well regarded as one of the top producers of Merlot in Washington state and the world. But, they also make some very good Cab. From a 92pt rated vintage (WA), the wine was handled and produced with expensive new oak from premier vineyards. The same wine with a Napa AVA would be over $100. We have scored a screaming deal here, so snap it up before it's gone.
Vineyards: Fruit from more than 10 separate vineyards and 14 different blocks contributed to the blend.
Oak Aging: 51% New Oak, 85% French, 15% American
Blend: 100% Merlot, 18 monts
Tasting Notes: “The wine has rich concentrated aromas of black cherry, plum, mint, cedar, and chocolate that lead into flavors of black raspberry and vanilla. The wine is big and bold and was created to enjoy now, or for many years to come as it will age gracefully."
Reviews
Supple and expressive, plush in texture but not weighty, layering blueberry and currant flavors with hints of cream and green olive. Lingers easily. Best from 2018 through 2023. ~92WS
