About the Wine
Just half a mile from the renowned Kongsgaard winery, known for its wines priced at $300 or more per bottle, you'll discover Sommras. Talk about ideal locations!
Welcome to Atlas Peak, where luxury and winemaking artistry unite. Nestled in the beautiful Napa Valley mountains, it's the pinnacle of high-end wineries like Atlas Peak, Alpha Omega, Ovid and Antica, and of course: Sommras.
With the guidance of the skilled winemaker Kent Jarman, these wines are the culmination of Geetesh Goyal's lifelong passion for wine. Four decades ago, a young Geetesh Goyal was captivated by the Italian vineyards. Sommras is his way of creating a wine that perfectly complements life's cherished moments. But Sommras is more than just wine; it's an exclusive members-only estate designed for those seeking the true essence of Napa luxury.
In the elevated microclimate of Atlas Peak, the grapes take on unique qualities. Volcanic soil and the nearby San Pablo Bay create wines of exceptional complexity and quality. Under the guidance of Kent Jarman, the winemakers craft small-batch, handcrafted wines with precision. Each bottle tells a distinct story of the vineyard's terroir, grape selection, and blending techniques.
Kent Jarman, the esteemed winemaker, brings his wealth of experience to every bottle. He graduated from U.C. Davis and began his career as an assistant winemaker at Duckhorn Vineyards in 2002. Over time, he became a consulting winemaker for various boutique wineries, including Kenefick Ranch Vineyards and 4088 on Atlas Peak. Kent also holds the role of winemaker/partner at Coup de Foudre and produces wines under his own label.
2019 was a fabulous year for Napa Valley Cabernet. Wine Spectator awarded this year a 97-point score, and Vinous Media gave it 96 points saying that "The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernets have turned out beautifully. 2019 is a very high-quality vintage of Cabernets that will be easy to drink and enjoy with minimal cellaring. The extra kick of late heat softened the tannins, making the wines a pleasure to taste and drink."
Aging: 18 months in 60% New French Oak and 40% Neutral French Oak.
Tasting Notes: 90% Cab Sauv, 7% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Focused elements of Currant, cassis, and Raspberries establish a powerful aromatic profile. A natural elevated level of acidity gifted to us by the vintage really carries and pushes the fresh fruit aspect from the mid-palate all the way to the finish. Subtle notes of toasted oak fill out the well-rounded tannic profile.
