Tenuta Meraviglia is the hilltop estate of Alejandro Bulgheroni, the Argentine entrepreneur and engineer whose Italian family roots stretch back to Como. Already the force behind Dievole in Chianti Classico and Podere Brizio in Montalcino, Bulgheroni acquired the former "Tenute Le Colonne" property in the southernmost reaches of Bolgheri in 2016 under the guidance of CEO Stefano Capurso. The estate is divided into two distinct terroirs: Tenuta Meraviglia occupies 31 hectares of hillside vineyard at 150 metres above sea level on rare Ophiolite-rich volcanic soils containing abundant rhyolite — geology unique to the San Vincenzo area that drives a distinctive mineral signature in the wines. As of 2019, all 95 hectares across both estates achieved certified organic status.

Winemaking at Tenuta Meraviglia is guided by viticulturalist Lorenzo Bernini working in close partnership with Alberto Antonini, one of Italy's most respected consulting enologists. Their approach deliberately breaks from Bolgheri's old playbook: rather than loading wines with new oak in small barriques, all fermentation happens naturally with indigenous yeasts in truncated tapered concrete vats, and aging takes place in large, untoasted French oak barrels. The result is wines of unusual transparency and purity — the fruit and terroir speak first, without the heavy cosmetic overlay that defined an earlier generation of Super Tuscans.

The 2019 growing season was particularly favorable in Bolgheri. Much-needed rainfall arrived at the end of July, followed by warm, calm weather through September, allowing the harvest to proceed with healthy, fully ripe fruit and excellent balance. For this vintage, the Bolgheri Rosso was assembled from 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon — the last vintage using this blend before the estate moved to 100% Cabernet Franc from 2020 onward. The wine aged for 12 months in large untoasted French oak barrels, then spent a further three months in bottle before release.
