The 2021 Doyen is more Grenache-based and is mixed with 18% Mourvèdre and 17% Syrah that was mostly destemmed and raised in 25% new 500-liter barrels. Red and black fruits, toasted spice, pepper, and savory herb and floral notes all define this beauty, and it's full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Coming from a blend of the Shadow Canyon, Catapult, and Paderewski vineyards, it has a beautiful mix of richness and elegance. Spicy to the core, the 2021 Doyen opens with a dark mix of cedar shavings, dried orange peel, candle wax and clove. It is deeply textural, with silken waves of ripe red and blue fruits, all neatly balanced by a core of vibrant acidity. The senses are drenched in primary concentration as the 2021 Doyen moves into the savory spectrum, leaving nuances of cocoa and spice. The 2021 Doyen is 65% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre and 17% Syrah, aged in predominately one-year-old 500-liter barrels. The nose is modern and flashy but retains a graceful, composed nuance, with black-fruited aromas accented by toasted tobacco, turned earth and fresh herbs. The palate is ripe, plush and seamless, but as with the nose, refrains from going over the top.
