Oakville sits at the beating heart of Napa Valley — the single most decorated appellation in American wine, home to Screaming Eagle, Opus One, Harlan, and Dalla Valle. It's a narrow band of the valley floor where morning fog and afternoon sun collide over red, iron-rich volcanic soil, producing Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinary depth, structure, and pedigree. Founded in 1996 when Kansas entrepreneur Leslie Rudd chased a thirty-year dream and purchased 55 acres on Oakville's eastern edge — literally steps from Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle — Rudd Estate has spent three decades becoming one of Napa's most quietly revered producers. The property's core stone volcanics and alluvial fan soils, combined with meticulous, small-lot, organically farmed viticulture, consistently produce wines that critics rank among the valley's elite. Today the estate is led by Leslie's daughter, Samantha Rudd, who has championed organic and biodynamic farming across the property since taking the reins.

This bottling, Samantha's Cabernet Sauvignon, is a hand-selected vineyard expression drawn from the estate's finest blocks — built for depth, character, and unmistakable Oakville identity. The 2021 release carries extra significance: it's the debut vintage of winemaker Natalie Bath, who grew up alongside Samantha on the property and had quietly shaped Rudd's wines behind the scenes for nearly a decade before stepping into the role. Critics have called 2021 one of the great growing seasons in Napa Valley history, and this wine is the proof.

Rich and enticing on the nose, with graphite minerality intertwined with cherry liqueur sweetness, layered with intense anise and deep violet spice and floral notes, and captivating black cherry fruit. The palate opens bright with fresh red currants and sun-warmed blackberries, builds toward bittersweet cocoa richness over gravelly, earthy undertones, and finishes long and savory with a whisper of black olive. What the Critics Said

Rudd Estate is situated in east Oakville, where vines are subject to late afternoon sun and heat, so mitigating those effects in the vineyard is paramount to ensure a "crescendo of acidity," as winemaker Natalie Bath puts it. Strikingly aromatic with intriguing savoury nuances that lead with ironstone volcanic minerals, nuanced by sagebrush, spicebush, and dried tobacco leaves, framed by pure black cherry, blackberry, and cassis. Medium-bodied, lifted, fresh, and filled with vitality on the palate, layered with more cherry and black currant, fragrant dried herbs and fig leaf, which weave an aromatic and flavour-driven tapestry around the ultra-fine-grained dusty tannins, which dissolve like fine powdery minerals, building to a long earth-and-cocoa-nib-driven finish. There is such freshness and vibrancy in this elegantly fashioned red. Rudd Oakville Estate

Rudd Winery was founded in 1996 by Kansas businessman Leslie Rudd. Leslie Rudd purchased a 55-acre site on the eastern side of Oakville. The land was previously owned by Steve Girard, a Kaiser Corporation executive who farmed the land for twenty years. Leslie Rudd replanted the vineyard with red Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Malbec). Napa architect Howard Backen was hired to build the winery. Leslie Rudd passed away in 2018, leaving his daughter Samantha as owner. Samantha Rudd hired experienced winemaker Frederick Ammons. Rudd Winery is a 55-acre estate located on the eastern side of the Oakville appellation. The land was originally owned by Steve Girard, a Kaiser Corporation executive who purchased it in 1974. Steve Girard Jr. sold the winery in 1996 to the Rudd family, Leslie and his wife Susan.
