About The Wine

Located on the limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion, Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is a rising star in Bordeaux, recently elevated to Grand Cru Classé status in 2022. The estate, originally dating back to the 18th century, was revitalized in 2012 by Peter Kwok and his daughter Karen, who restored its historic dry-stone terraces—a rare feature in the region. These terraces, cascading down the hillsides, allow the vines to thrive in clay-limestone soils, fostering excellent drainage and imparting structure and minerality to the wine.

Spanning 20 hectares, the vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%), a blend that embodies both richness and finesse. The vines, averaging 30 years in age, benefit from south-southwest exposure, ensuring optimal ripening and balance.

2022 was an extraordinary vintage for Bordeaux, it was blessed with a 95-98 pt review by Wine Spectator who said: "A beautiful vintage. Merlot berries were small and concentrated; Cabernet Franc also relished the conditions. Wines are very aromatic and sleek, with Pomerol and St.-Emilion excelling"

A wine of power and elegance, 2022 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe showcases the estate’s commitment to crafting terroir-driven wines that highlight the best of Saint-Émilion’s historic vineyards.

Aging: 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 30-40% new oak.

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. A deep, layered Saint-Émilion that balances intensity with refinement. Aromas of blackberries, cassis, and dark wild berries intertwine with notes of spice, tobacco, and fresh herbs. Hints of cocoa powder, blood orange, and crushed stone add depth and complexity. The palate is rich and expansive, with fine-grained tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish, showcasing both power and elegance in perfect harmony.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A very good year for Tour Saint Christophe, showing great depth and flavor despite high alcohol. Abundant dark minerals, fresh blackberries, black olives and a hint of cocoa powder. Pretty full-bodied and firm with crunchy, reactive tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Lots of density here. Drink from 2027. ~96 James Suckling

Spice-laden red and black fruits, leafy tobacco, savory flowers, and new leather notes all shine in the 2022 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, another brilliant wine from this team. I love its complexity, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with fine tannins, a layered, elegant mouthfeel, beautifully integrated oak, and a great finish. Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up in 25% new French oak, give bottles 3-5 years if you can and enjoy over the following 15+. ~96 Jeb Dunnuck

Deep, rich, intense, long, and hedonistic, this thrill ride includes layers of perfectly ripe, mineral-tinted, red, black, and blue fruits. There is length, purity, volume, and expansiveness, as well as balance, freshness, and complexity here. The finish lingers with more of those beautiful fruits. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2026-2048. ~96 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

The 2022 Tour Saint Christophe is every bit as impressive as it was from barrel. Rich, ample and quite potent, the 2022 is wonderfully deep and fleshy right out of the gate. A blast of dark red cherry, spice, menthol and blood orange builds as the Tour Saint Christophe gains volume and stature with time in the glass. ~94 Vinous Media

This first vintage under the denomination of Grand Cru Classé, the 2022 Tour Saint Christophe is excellent, offering up aromas of spices, cassis, dark wild berries, orange peel and licorice mingled with delicate oaky notes. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's layered and textured and framed by powdery, velvety tannins enhanced by a racy, pure, fresh finish. It should gain raciness with some time in the cellar. ~93 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
