About the Wine
The Godfather of Friuli’s Whites Strikes Again.
This isn’t your average Pinot Grigio. This is the Pinot Grigio that silences every cliché, rewrites the rulebook, and pours like a masterclass in Northern Italian finesse. The 2022 ‘des Rosis’ is a living tribute to Mario Schiopetto—the man Wine Spectator called the “quiet winemaker” who made louder-than-life waves across the Italian wine world.
Back in the 1960s, while the rest of Italy was still swirling rustic whites, Mario was busy launching revolutions from his family’s trattoria in Friuli. He introduced temperature-controlled fermentation and ditched sulphur long before the world caught on. He saw the future, and it tasted fresh, precise, and electrifying.
Now, fast-forward to this bottle.
From the sun-drenched slopes of Capriva del Friuli, surrounded by terraced vineyards and kissed by the Adriatic breeze, comes this knockout Pinot Grigio. It's cool-climate elegance turned up to eleven. Aromas of alpine herbs, green apple, and lemon zest rise from the glass like a breeze off the hills. There’s a stony core of minerality humming beneath, and just a whisper of almond on the finish—because Mario wouldn’t have it any other way.
What sets this wine apart? It's not just the purity. It’s the balance. The refinement. The soul. This is the kind of white wine that makes sommeliers lean in and casual drinkers say, “Wait… this is Pinot Grigio?” Yes. And it’s glorious.
The 2022 ‘des Rosis’ is more than a bottle—it’s a slice of Italian wine history, handcrafted by a man whose vision shaped an entire region. Serve it chilled. Share it with friends who think they know Pinot Grigio. Watch their eyebrows rise.
Tasting Notes
100% Pinot Grigio. With an air of confectionary spice and white flowers accentuating freshly sliced nectarines. This is wickedly fresh, with zesty acidity and a green citrus tinge to its ripe orchard fruits. It finishes clean and with medium length, leaving hints of young peach and chamomile to linger on.
Reviews
Sliced apples, lemon pith, orchid blossom and crushed stones on the nose. A bit of white pepper. Medium-bodied, fresh, salty and a little phenolic. Clean and crunchy. Very attractive and approachable. Drink now. ~92 James Suckling
The 2022 Pinot Grigio is remarkably pretty, with an air of confectionary spice and white flowers accentuating freshly sliced nectarines. This is wickedly fresh, with zesty acidity and a green citrus tinge to its ripe orchard fruits. It finishes clean and with medium length, leaving hints of young peach and chamomile to linger on. The balance here is outstanding, making it easy to return to the glass repeatedly. ~90 Vinous Media
