About The Wine

This is the Napa Cabernet you open when you want to impress without spending $150. Philippe Melka — the winemaker behind Hundred Acre, Dana Estates, and other Napa cult names — crafts Blueprint from seven premier vineyard sites spanning the valley floor to Howell Mountain. The result drinks like a wine from a much higher price tier: full-bodied, layered with dark fruit and chocolate, with the kind of silky, structured finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

The 2023 vintage was one of Napa's cleanest growing seasons in years — no heat spikes, no wildfires, just slow, even ripening — and four critics scored it 92–94 points. Behind the label is the Lail family, six generations of Napa winemaking stretching back to the founders of Inglenook in 1879. At this quality level, Blueprint doesn't stay on shelves long.

What makes Blueprint special is how Melka and co-winemaker Maayan Koschitzky use those seven sites. Rutherford and Oakville bring the rich, dark core. Howell Mountain adds structure and mineral grip. Stags Leap District layers in silk and finesse. Calistoga, Coombsville, and Yountville round it all out. The blend is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon with a splash of Petit Verdot for color and lift, aged 17 months in French oak (65% new). It's essentially a greatest-hits tour of Napa Valley in a single glass.

Mouthfeel & Acidity

97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot. Deep purple-red in the glass with aromas of sandalwood, ripe plum, coffee bean, and cocoa. On the palate, layers of black raspberry, cherry, dark chocolate, and huckleberry unfold with a creamy, full-bodied texture. Bright acidity keeps it lively at the core, while refined tannins carry through a long, elegant, richly layered finish. Aged 17 months in French oak barrels (65% new).

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

"The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint is a fabulous entry-level offering from Robin Lail. Dark, ample and seductive, the 2023 delivers on all fronts. Blackberry, graphite, dried herbs, leather and chocolate are all dialed up. Blueprint is a blend from some of the top sites in Napa Valley. It's one of the very best Napa Valley Cabernets in its price range. The 2023 is perhaps the best vintage of this bottling ever." ~94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2023 Blueprint Cabernet Sauvignon comes bounding out with exuberant notes of black cherries and blackcurrant jelly, leading to hints of menthol, pencil lead, and lilacs. The full-bodied palate delivers tightly wound notes of blackberries and minerally flavors, framed by firm, grainy tannins and refreshing acidity, finishing earthy." ~93 Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Palate

"Lovely depth of flavor and fruit-driven freshness, with aromas of graphite, black olives, potpourri and spices. The palate is refined and pure, with a rounded, textural mouthfeel that leads to a savory, earth-driven finish. Drink or hold." ~93 James Suckling

"Deep purple and ruby-hued, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint is sourced from a broad mix of sites across the valley, including Calistoga, Coombsville, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, Stags Leap District, and Yountville. Based on 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot and aged 17 months in 65% new French oak, it offers deep blackcurrants, plums, chocolate, woodsmoke, and black cherry notes. It's medium to full-bodied, with spicy oak, a round, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Drink 2025-2035." ~92 Jeb Dunnuck
