About The Wine

Tablas Creek Vineyard started in 1989 as a transatlantic partnership between Robert Haas — founder of Vineyard Brands and one of the most regarded figures in the American wine trade — and the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. In 1990 they founded the winery, importing cuttings of all 14 traditional Chateauneuf-du-Pape varieties directly from the Perrin estate and planting them in Paso Robles' rocky limestone soils. Today the property is certified organic and biodynamic, with winemaker Jason Haas (Robert's son) at the helm.

This is Tablas Creek's twenty-fourth bottling of Vermentino — a traditional Mediterranean varietal known principally in Sardinia, Corsica, and Northern Italy, where it's prized for its bright citrus character, refreshing acidity, and surprising richness. Vermentino is the only non-Chateauneuf grape in their portfolio, planted in two small blocks that thrive in Paso's calcareous soils. The wine is whole-cluster pressed, fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel to preserve minerality, and bottled in early 2026 — 900 cases total.

The 2025 vintage began dry but finished wet, with two-thirds of the winter's precipitation arriving in February and March. Late rains delayed budbreak and allowed the vineyard to dodge spring frosts. The summer was warm but rarely hot — the fewest 100-degree days in Tablas Creek's history. Cool temperatures in September and October slowed harvest, which finished in early November. The exceptionally long hangtime and gradual ripening produced fruit with deep color, remarkable intensity, and noteworthy vibrancy. Jason Haas believes 2025 has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster year.

The wine shows a mineral-rich nose of grapefruit pith, citrus blossom, lemongrass, and sea spray. On the palate: vibrant lemon drop and pineapple core, citrus leaf and verbena. The finish is bright with yellow grapefruit and chamomile, briny minerality, and a creamy texture. Vinous scored it 95 points. Pull the cork tonight — it'll drink beautifully over the next few years.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

“The 2025 Vermentino is zesty and spry, with a burst of crushed rocks and sea air complicating lime-spiked green apples. It balances stern minerality with vividly ripe orchard fruits over a stream of silken textures. It leaves a candied citrus tinge offset by a saline saturation while finishing long yet wickedly fresh.” ~93 Vinous Media

THE PRODUCER

Tablas Creek Vineyards

Tablas Creek Vineyard is an exemplar of the GSM blend and has been influential in popularizing it in California. In 1990 Jean-Pierre and François Perrin, in collaboration with wine importer Robert Haas, founded Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles, California. In 2006, the Perrin family and Château de Beaucastel joined Primum Familiae Vini, an association of high-end family-owned wineries. Tablas Creek Vineyard's origins trace back to a transatlantic partnership between the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France, and Robert Haas, an American wine importer. The winery was officially founded in 1990, with the first vines planted in 1994. Tablas Creek imported cuttings of all 14 traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape grape varieties directly from the Perrin family's estate. The site is located in Adelaida, a subregion of Paso Robles, California, discovered in 1989.
