Nestled in the heart of Chile's Colchagua Valley, Viña Los Vascos benefits from an ideal microclimate, positioned between the Andes and the Coastal Mountain Range. With hot, dry days and cool, wet nights, the dramatic temperature contrasts favor the slow ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, resulting in wines of remarkable elegance and depth.

The estate spans 8,800 acres, with 1,500 acres dedicated to vine cultivation. The terroir of Viña Los Vascos is diverse, featuring volcanic soils that contribute to the complexity and longevity of the wines. The Cabernet Franc grapes grown by Los Vascos in Peralillo were planted in 2013 on the property's granite slopes. From these, they selected the fruit for approximately 36,000 bottles of a highly varietal wine, with notes of tobacco, herbs, and ripe red fruits. The palate is tense and juicy, rich in acidity and also with those incisive tannins that are almost a trademark of the Franc. This is an excellent varietal example, as well as a delicious wine for grilled offal. ~93 Descorchados

Ripe but fresh aromas of currants, quince, stones, paprika and dusty spices on the nose. Medium body on the palate with fine-grained tannins and a firm and linear finish. Expressive and juicy. Drink now or hold. ~92 James Suckling

Spicy nose yet still elegant. Some grilled tarragon herbs to the red and black cherries. Some white pepper, cloves and a twist of fine sweet spices from the oak. Juicy and savory on the medium- to full-bodied palate with firm but polished tannins. Long and nicely saline. Very appetizing and balanced. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling

The Cromas line is showing a juicy and very clear fruit style in its varietal expressions. As an example, you can try this Syrah from 13-year-old vineyards planted on the Los Vascos property in Peralillo, west of the Colchagua Valley.
