The Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is the pinnacle of Hall's blending efforts each year. The exalted Sacrashe vineyard takes center stage, and is the basis of this blend. The vineyard contributes the mouth-coating richness and complexity, offering deep, dark earthy cassis flavors and powerfully dense tannins. From there, the blend complementary vineyards, usually from the most regarded mountain appellation, to create balance, symmetry and finesse in the wine. Lastly, the winemaker introduces vineyards with profound depth and decadence to heighten the voluptuousness and opulence that have become a hallmark character of the flagship wine.

Varietal Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Aging: 24 months, 75% new French

Reviews

The 2014 ‘Katheryn Hall’ Cabernet Sauvignon is amongst the most compelling releases of this bottling that I have ever tasted. This spent 24 Months in 75% New French Oak and instantly impresses with its deeply hued, opaque color, followed by complex aromatics of crème de cassis, Asian spices, mocha, sweet pipe tobacco, red cherries and mint along with savory accents which are simply intoxicating. While its power is evident, the balance and purity of fruit is simply amazing, as it delivers deep, concentrated flavors of crème de cassis, mocha, tar, cigar box and roasted coffee which continue effortlessly through the finish. Voluptuous and seamless, this stunning Cabernet is just about impossible to resist now, however expect this to evolve gracefully over the next decade and beyond. (Best 2017-2040)  ~98, IWR

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall opens with intense crème de cassis, mulberries and plum preserves notions over hints of Chinese five spice, tapenade and smoky bacon, plus a touch of dried Provence herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated and powerfully fruited on the palate, it has a soft, inviting frame of fine-grained tannins and loads of spice and savory layers coming through on the long finish. ~95, WA

Subscribers who have followed recent years of The Wine Advocate know that this is one of the most exciting producers in Napa Valley, having burst on the scene a short time ago and offering a brilliant array of Cabernet Sauvignons. As a post-script to subscribers, it’s time to jump on the Hall bandwagon, as they are doing everything right, and their wines are among the most exciting being made in the world today. ~WA
