About the Wine

Lazzeretti is a relative newcomer in Brunello, with production starting in 2001. Marco and Julia are brother and sister who personally oversee the production and business. They make around 2,000 cases per year, as well as a small amount of Rosso, Riserva, Grappa, and extra virgin olive oil. Although distribution of the Lazzeretti label started at the turn of the century, the Lazzeretti family has been producing wine since the 80s. It wasn't until Marco decided to produce wine from their grapes for their own label.

"If I had to think of one way to universally describe the majority of wines from the 2016 vintage, I would offer that they are like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised, and structured. These are wines that capture your imagination; and no matter how youthfully tense they are today, you simply can’t help but revisit a glass over and over again; because in many cases, the aromatics alone are intoxicating. I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish. Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese. The wine is a bright ruby color showcasing classic aromas of light red fruits and just a touch of herbal complexity that one would expect from a well-made Brunello. The palate is pushing towards full-bodied reiterating the aromas, with a solid tannin structure and a long finish.

Rich and enveloping in the main profile it offers hints of blackberries, raspberries, black plums, and cloves. On the palate, it shows a persuasive and compact full body that slowly emerges towards a delicate and juicy closure that excites right away. Better from 2021. ~95 International Wine Report

A juicy red with sour-cherry and citrus aromas, as well as some tile and wet earth, following through to a full body with a pretty core of fruit, chewy tannins, and a long, fresh finish. Tight at the end. Needs time to soften. Try after 2023. ~94 James Suckling
