About the Wine
Rossi di Montalcino is one of the best-value wines in all of Tuscany. And, because this wine is crafted with the same grape (Sangiovese Grosso) and comes from the same region in Montalcino as Brunello, you'll find enormous similarities between these two wines. James Suckling said, “It shares many of the qualities of Brunello: A complex flavor profile, fantastic with food, and is produced by many of the same top producers of Brunello. But you don’t have to wait long to enjoy it or pay a high price.”
Right in the heart of Tuscany, you will find The Belpoggio estate. Composed of about 24 acres, half of which are dedicated to Sangiovese and the other part to olive groves. It is located in Castelnuovo Abbot, in the town of Montalcino just 500 meters from the famous Abbey of St Antimo. The vineyard's location is considered one of the best for Sangiovese and allows the natural elements to produce wines of unparalleled quality. Established in 2005, Belpoggio is quickly becoming one of the best Brunello producers in all of Italy!
The vineyards of Belpoggio have a southwest exposure, and are located in a privileged terroir placed on rocky slopes; the soils are composed of rich skeletons and tuff which allows the perfect development and thriving of the grapes, resulting in complex and elegant wines.
After harvest, the wine undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation for 15 to 18 days, is aged 9/12 months in 30hl oak casks, and finally, the flavors are allowed to marry in a bottle for some months before leaving the winery.
Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese Grosso. An amazing red, that shows a good structure. It's lively and elegant. Pleasantly fruity, beautiful aromas of raspberry and spicy notes of aromatic herbs. Rounded and silky on the palate with fresh and balsamic notes that give it an extraordinary drinkability. Pair this wine with red meat, game and aged cheeses,
Reviews
Quite a ripe style with spiced-cherries, dried strawberries, and hints of chocolate. Lively and juicy on the palate, with a polished texture and a fruity finish. Drink now. ~91 Points, James Suckling.
